First make sure the door itself is running correctly and freely. Some times springs on the door break and you might think it is the gdo because it can't handle the load and ends up breaking the gdo. Pull the red cord down and release it from the gdo and run it up/down a couple of times.

Put the door all the way and run the gdo without the door hooked up and make sure it goes all the way up/down. If it does not run like this then you need the gears replaced more than likely, because there is no load on it and it should run if all is ok. If it does run ok, hook the door back up to the gdo. Look either on the back(single light) or the side(double light) and find the force adjustments. They will be two little screws poking out of the motor unit, NOT the ones that are recessed. Out of these two one controls the up force and one controls the down force. Turn both 1/4 of a turn and try it again. If it does not work try another 1/4 turn. If this does not work and all is ok with your door then you need a professional service technician to come to your house and look at it. If this does work then after adjustments are done you need to do a 2x4 safety reversal test. Lay a 2x4 flat and after it closes it should come back up by itself. If it does not come up and stays closed then you need to turn down the force you just turned up by 1/8 turn until it does reverse on its own. Thanks BB

This is a great place to go for advice, especially if you're low on funds and you could resolve the problem before calling and paying a service call, if it's an easy fix. I'm glad you are there for me.
