139.53648SRT2 Garage door opener is stuck open, what causes this?

When I press wall button, it blinks 1x. When I press it again, the opener buzzes, but there's no movement. Same thing with remote and keyless pad. I have, on occasion, had it move 6 inches, then go back, but it's rare. I've tried unplugging the unit for 5 minutes and plugging it back in. I tinkered with sensor alignment, and it looks good. The receiver light is steady, no flickering. I manually closed the door, so sunlight on the sensor is not an issue. The LED on the opener blinks 5 times periodically. When I unplug/plug it back in, it stays solid about 30 sec, then goes back to its blinking cycle.

Based on what you're telling me, it sounds like the rpm sensor is bad. I mainly suggest that because it's not responding from the wall switch. When the safety sensors are faulty or tripped, you should be able to hold down the wall control and make it close.

I would recommend having a tech come out to check the rpm sensor.

Have same problem, but wal control does not work either... still blinks 5 times in repeating pattern.

I have the same problem and I replaced the RPM sensor but did not have any luck. Any other suggestions?

Having a tech come out to house not an option - no local Sears / Craftsman available locally. Local handyman costs more than replacement. Have ordered and received equipment and will self-install (have done it before). This will NOT be a Craftsman unit.....

You need to loosen the chain enough to release the tension and run the opener until the door closes. While the door is closed locate the 'up limit' control on the side of the motor unit and using a small screwdriver turn this 2 complete turns in the opposite direction of the arrow printed on the cover.

Last msg from Don -- tried that also -- had checklist of possible solutions -- none work. Seems repolacement is only viable option -- especially since tech visit costs more than new garage opener....

This is a great place to go for advice, especially if you're low on funds and you could resolve the problem before calling and paying a service call, if it's an easy fix. I'm glad you are there for me.
