First of all unplug the unit if you are working on the inside of it at all. Also I am under the assumption that the door is operating properly. To check pull the red cord down and operate the door by hand to make sure. This is also a good time to lubricate your door.

If the door is up and you press the button and hold it down and it operates then it is the photo eyes. If you replaced the star and worm gear and were inside the unit make sure that the travel screws did not get bumped or altered. They are the three little white screws under the motor and regulate how far it opens and closes. You say the sensors are ok, do both have lights on, they will either be both green or green and yellow, depending on the year. Are the force limits turned up high enough? If these are not the problem go back through the gear install and make sure it was done properly. Thanks BB

I have the exact same problem as you do!! Does the green light on the back of your unit flash 5 times and then stop after you try to cycle the door? Mine does. I also tried removing the chain to see if it would cycle, however it does the same thing. I have adjusted the limit screws as it seems as though this is the problem, however no matter how I adjust them, I still get the same result. The door just starts and then stops!! Very frustrating!!

This is a great place to go for advice, especially if you're low on funds and you could resolve the problem before calling and paying a service call, if it's an easy fix. I'm glad you are there for me.
