What is causing my garage door opener to function erratically?

We have a Craftsman Model 139.53615SR Garage Door Operner that came with our house. It's acting up. It will go to the opposite position (if it's up it goes down; if it's down it goes up) on it's own, and then it is dead. The reset button does not help. If you unplug it and plug it back in, the light comes on, but the motor is still dead. The button on the wall is dead too, no light. Unplug it awhile and plug it back in and it works . . . then after awhile goes dead again. It's done this before, then stopped doing it.

It sounds like the logic board in your opener may be at fault. I would recommend having a technician come take a look at the opener to be sure of the problem and solution.

This is a great place to go for advice, especially if you're low on funds and you could resolve the problem before calling and paying a service call, if it's an easy fix. I'm glad you are there for me.
