Old keypad for craftsman model 139.53914D stopped working after three years. New keypad programs correctly and works when near the base unit, but when positioned outside of garage door, works sporadically when door open and not at all when closed. Help!
There are a couple of problems that could be causing this. One is interference from an outside source. Garage door openers, like all electronics are made to receive interference, but if it is too close or is real close to the frequency then it can cause problems. Have you recently purchased a new oven, microwave, computer? Any thing along those lines? The only way to test this yourself is to unplug most everything that could cause this and check the gdo after. As the gdo gets older they are more likely to have such a problem.
You can try buying an external antenna for your gdo, but if the interference is still too strong than you have wasted money. It can be purchased at sears.com and click on help shopping and online chat. Have your model number ready. You can also buy a new opener to solve this problem. They change the frequency on gdo's every 5-10 years and the new units that have the ((( ))) symbol have great compatability with almost all other electronics. Thanks BBMember
