You can buy bulk and cut your own if you like. Just make sure it's the same diameter line as the precut. The material it's made from may be slightly different so it may wear down a little faster, but otherwise you shouldn't notice anything out of the ordinary except more change in your pocket. I've done that for several years with my machine and had really good luck buying huge rolls of line. What we use does wear a little faster than the pre-cut, but not so much that you should really notice. We only notice because we have a 6acre yard and a half mile driveway that gets the trimmer every other week.
