I have a Craftsman 3.75 hp push Mower that will not crank. Could it be the coil?

It could be. Check for spark at the spark plug. If you have new spark plug and no spark, I would think that the coil is indeed bad. If you do have spark, then I would suggest to check out the carburetor and make sure it's clean.
