Answer itProblems getting garage door to shut. can I turn the force dials and up down dials to 0 then reset?

First to make sure that your problem is with your opener and not your door, disconnect them by pulling down on the red cord by the top of the door. Now run the door up and down by hand. Make sure the door is running smoothly and not catching or dragging on anything. If all is ok there next run the opener while it is not connected to the door and see how it performs with no load on it.Just from your description it sounds like you have 2 problems if all is ok from up top. 1-the down travel on your opener is not set right
2-the down force on your opener is not high enoughThese two problems will have to be fixed at the same time. First adjust the down force at the stregnth that you said made it go all the way down. Just to make sure that you are adjusting the force consult the manual or just know that the force settings are set up to turn about 270 degrees and are usually located on the front on genies and the back(single bulb) or side(double bulb) of craftsman, liftmaster and chamberlain. Then set the down travel limit. On genies it will be a direct setting at the very end of the opener arm away from the motor. It is a switch that either is magnetic or has a lever. Check it to make sure it is functional. You can adjust it by loosening the screw and moving it and then setting the screw. On the other brands there will be two plastic screw ends in the side of the motor, one indicates up one down. Choose the down one and insert a flat screw driver and rotate opposite of the down arrow 720 degrees. this should give your opener enough force to go down but make it go down too far. Fine tune the down travel with your screw driver about 1/4 to 1/2 turns a try. After the desired down travel is reached fine tune the down force, first by doing a 2x4 safety reversal test, by laying a 2x4 flat on the ground and closing the door. It should close on it and revers up, not stay down if it stays down there is too much down force. The right force is in between there and not enough power to operate the door. You just have to find it. This would also be a good time to luricatr the door. Thanks
