How do you purge the transaxle on a manual trans craftsman rider?
bought 6/03 model 917.273130 Mower motor starts and runs at various speeds. When put into gear to travel, it stalls out

There is no purge procedure for a manual transmission. There is nothing to purge as it's not a pressurized system like a hydrostatic transmission is.
If the tractor is stalling out when you put it in gear, I would suspect that the transmission is somehow locked up. The brakes could be sticking on it, but usually that won't cause the engine to stall out. If the belt is off and jammed into the belt keepers, that could possibly cause that to happen.Join this conversation.
