Kohler 22HP, CV22S-75534, Wont' charge battery. What parts are the likely problem?
You engine has an alternator and a regulator. The regulator should be on the right side of the engine (as you sit on the tractor) Will be a little square device with 2 white wires and 1 black (and sometimes a green on the side of it). Get a volt meter and set it up to read AC volts. Start the tractor. On the 2 white wires you should have 28volts AC at full throttle (could be slightly more volts). If you have that, then change your meter to read DC volts. Check between the black wire and ground. You should have around 13volts DC at full throttle.
Not enough AC coming in, the alternator is bad, not enough DC coming out, the regulator is bad.On the chance that you can tell the wire colors. As you look at the regulator, the wire in the center is the DC wire. The 2 outside ones are AC wires. If you're still in doubt, unplug the device and you will see one of the tabs engraved with "B+", that will be the DC wire, the other ones are the AC.Member
