I assume you are talking about the star gear and not the worm gear, as this one usually is the one to fail. If so, first unplug your unit, next take the screws out of the housing to expose the motor and gears. There are 3 gears inside, you will need to locate the smallest. It is below the larger star gear. There is a clip under it, take it out. Slide the small gear off the bottom. Next, there are two pins, one above, one below the star gear. You need to remove the one below the star gear to slip it off the bottom of the shaft. You can do this by drilling out this old pin with a bit the same size as the pin, as you should have a new one that came with your new gear. If not you have to beat it out and save it. Slip the star gear off the bottom of the shaft. Then reverse the process. Lubricate the gears with the grease provided or a shot of silicone...not too much. Plug in the gdo and try it out before the cover is on so you can make sure the gears are working properly. If so replace the casing screws, and set the travel limits. Also check your force limits and do a 2x4 safety test as your manual directs.

This is a great place to go for advice, especially if you're low on funds and you could resolve the problem before calling and paying a service call, if it's an easy fix. I'm glad you are there for me.
