The siding is wood on the outside. The wood is rotting. I'm thinking of replacing the wood and the bottom is rotting to. Can you help me? This is a shed we have in the back of our mobile home.
It typically is rotting worst at the lower edges if they are in contact with soil. You can cut away the bottom of the siding, and then from the inside, add some new studs along the old ones. They should rest on some stones or concrete blocks which are up above the soil level so that it doesn't rot out again. You may need to cut away the bottom of the old wall completely first, put in a row of blocks, then add the new studs. Use pressure treated wood too. Once the wall structure is rebuilt, new siding can be put back on. Again, ensure the wood doesn't touch soil anywhere - a clearance of 2 to 8 inches is recommended.
