What is wrong with my saw?

This saw has less than 1 hour on it. Saw stalls out when over-cutting anything larger than 4" diameter. Saw will not cut bigger logs straight. I bought the saw Sept 2008 but used for the first time April 18, 2009. Bar and chain look fine. I guessed straight out of the box these should be ok. I stopped in the store where I purchased the saw and now they want to sell me new parts approx. $50. Saw motor seems under powered on 12-16" logs. Is something set wrong? Model: 358.351600

I suspect you just need to make a carburetor air adjustment on your saw. It is worth mentioning that if it sat with fuel in it from the time you bought it until now, that can very well be the issue.

I will assume that it sat with no fuel in it though. I have a very similar saw and it will rip through trees up to 16" diameter with no worries whatsoever. In the owners manual they describe where the carburetor adjustments are. I would have a serious look at that because I think that's really all that's going on with yours.

If you try that it still doesn't perform as it should, please re-submit your question and give as some more details and I'm sure we can get you cutting correctly.

This is a great place to go for advice, especially if you're low on funds and you could resolve the problem before calling and paying a service call, if it's an easy fix. I'm glad you are there for me.
