How do you replace a pawl ratchet on a Craftsman front tine tiller?

I have a Craftsman tiller model number 917.298353. It has a Briggs and Stratton engine model no. 135202 type 0119-01. This piece allows the pull cord to connect to the flywheel which turns and makes the tiller start. Location inside the housing rewind starter area.

Generally I recommend replacing the entire starter assembly in these circumstances. If you feel pretty confident that you can make the repair, all you really need to do is remove the spring pin that holds the pawl assembly into the starter. Be mindful to not let the rewind spring pop out when doing anything on the starter as it is a pretty hard job to get it wound back up correctly. When you remove the spring pin, the pawl cover will just pull off and the pawls are right there. This sounds pretty easy, and it is, but if you've not done it before it's not quite so easy. That's why I recommend just replacing the entire starter assembly.

This is a great place to go for advice, especially if you're low on funds and you could resolve the problem before calling and paying a service call, if it's an easy fix. I'm glad you are there for me.
