Both safeties have green lights and when we hit the button or remotes the big lights flash 10 times. Both safeties are green. This is a 1/2 horsepower model that is only a few years old. I am using the brown remotes, not the earlier gray style.
Without the model number of your garage door opener, it is difficult to accurately predict your failure. When the light bulbs flash on most 1/2 HP Craftsman models, the LED above the LEARN button on the motor unit will normally be flashing in a pattern to indicate the cause of your problem. Observe this LED and then refer to your owner's manual to determine the cause of your failure.
If you do not have your owner's manual, you can normally find it on our Manage My Home website. Here is an example of one type of 1/2 HP Craftsman garage door opener: Owner's Manual If you need more help, resubmit your question with additional details (LED flashes) and the full model number of your garage door opener off of the motor unit.I'm sorry that I don't have the answer, but I would like to share with you that I had the identical problem for months - with a brand new opener! I had 4 men (2 of which were professional handymen) look at it, to no avail. Finally, I had a Sears technician come out to deal with it. He surmised the problem immediately and had it fixed in a few minutes. I remember him saying something on the motor hadn't been tightened enough when it was installed, also, the wrong bolts or something had been applied to the tracks near the motor. (Sorry, I am completely mechanically-illiterate). My advice would be to check every fastener and knob to see if something came loose. If that doesn't work, you should bring in a garage door expert (preferably Sears); this wasn't a problem, at least, in my frustrating experience with it, that "Joe Handyman" could figure out.
