It's a Sears garage door opener Mod: 139.53910D which has had intermittent problems of closing & opening in the past. The sectional door seems to be balanced and not binding and the LED's are both on and bright. When it won't close with the remote, I have to hold down the wall button to close the door. Sometimes it takes 2 or 3 tries for even this to work. I've had to adjust the force limits to its max. per the manual. I don't know what else to do.
When you hold the wall switch in, you override the safety sensor circuit of the door sensors. This indicates you have a problem with the door safety sensor circuit.
Watch the leds on the door sensors when the garage door won't close. They might start flashing when the garage door starts to move. If there is any looseness of the mounting of the sensors it can cause this problem. The fact that the wall switch button has to be held more than once to close the door sounds as if there might be a problem with the wires between the wall control and the opener.Check the wires to the door sensors and the wall control for staples pinching the wires. Check the connections on the back of the motor unit and be sure the wires are connected tight. Check the connections on back of the wall control for connection problems. When you find and repair the problem with the opener, adjust the force controls away from max as far as you can and still operate the door. Be sure you can stop the door when it is going down with your hands fairly easily.Member
