I have a garage door opener model 13953413. When I press the wall button, the door moves 4" up. If I press it again, it reverses 4". What is wrong?

If I take the chain off, the motor turns slightly both ways. I just installed a new drive and worm gear.

When you removed the worm gear you removed the small gear that drives the up and down limit switch. In the process of the repair the limit switch and the position of the trolley might have gotten out of synchronization.

You need to open or close the door and remove this small gear again. Manually turn the limit switch so the center contact almost touches the up or down contact to match the location of the trolley. Install the drive gear and adjust the up and down limits properly.

This is a great place to go for advice, especially if you're low on funds and you could resolve the problem before calling and paying a service call, if it's an easy fix. I'm glad you are there for me.
