Why does my garage door open with the remote and not with the push bar?
It is a Craftsman door opener, 1/2 hp, model 139.5397SRT.

Either the wall control is bad, or the wires between the wall control and the garage door opener are loose, shorted or broken.
To test remove the wall control from the wall and remove the wires from the 2 terminals. Note the tightness of the screws holding the wires on. If one or both are loose this might be the problem. With the wires loose from the switch touch the 2 wire ends together. If the opener operates, the wires are ok. Replace the wall control. If it doesn't operate check the wires for a break or a staple pinching them too tight and possibly shorting them together. If you don't find a problem. replace the wires.Join this conversation.
