My model 139.53615SR garage door opener won't close.

This problem began about three weeks ago, but at the time, it resulted in a stripped gear. I have now replaced the gears and am trying to figure out the problem. With the door open, I press the remote control and the door closes about a foot, then reopens. I have disconnected the wall control and there is no difference. I checked the indicator light on the back of the opener unit next to the SR code button and it is not lit, nor does it flash when operating. Any help would be appreciated.

When you removed the worm gear you removed the small gear that drives the up and down limit switch. In the process of the repair the limit switch and the position of the trolley might have gotten out of synchronization.

You need to open or close the door and remove this small gear again. Manually turn the limit switch so the center contact almost touches the up or down contact to match the location of the trolley. Install the drive gear and adjust the up and down limits properly.

This is usually the problem after replacing the gears on a garage door opener. Try this and if you have more questions, send another email and give us the results of this action. We will try to get you the information you need.

Thank you for your response. Unfortunately, it did not fix the problem. No matter where I position the contact, it has no effect. The door still only travels down about a foot, then returns.

I have the same problem ,same answer and same results. BUT, I am not sure I understand the term "center contact" in the answer. I have a drawing of the limit switch assy and I am pretty sure I am not applying your answer correctly. I see a contact with a 90 degree bend on each end and a plastic connector? in the center. Where is the center contact you say to line up to the up or down contact?

richard, the center contact is the contact the limit switches make contact to. I hope this helps.

ok. so If I remove the small gear and manually turn the limit switch so the center contact almost touches the up or down contact to match the location of the trolley and the door still goes down a few inches and goes back up a few inches what else can I do?

richard, try holding the button on the wall control in. If this makes the door go down, the problem is in the door safety sensors or the wiring to them. If this is the case be sure the led's on both sensors is on and not blinking. You might need to align the sensors. Be sure the 2 black wires from the sensors are together on terminal 2 or 3 and the 2 black with a white stripe wires are together on the other terminal.

Good morning Jimmy, I just installed a 15 year old garage door opener, new in the box model 139.53615SR. I have complete limit control except when I go to close the door it closes completely and and 2 seconds later reopens automatically. When I adjust the down pressure control it changes the travel limit can you please advice?

The down travel is what you need to adjust. Adjust the down travel so the door stops just before it touches the floor. Then adjust it gradually down until it just touches the floor and stays down. If the down force control changes the travel of the door, there is probably a mechanical problem with the garage door. The door needs to open and close easily by hand in order for the garage door opener to work properly.

This is a great place to go for advice, especially if you're low on funds and you could resolve the problem before calling and paying a service call, if it's an easy fix. I'm glad you are there for me.
