While using my Craftsman Air Compressor Model No. 919.167790 I noticed the compressor would not build up pressure to the approximately 175 lb. I then shut the compressor off and felt air leaking around the regulator. I unplugged the air compressor, released all the air pressure from the tank, removed the regulator ring, black knob and the console cover. It was then I saw a "built in possible weep hole" on top of the fitting where the black knob pulls up and down. This hole was where the air was coming from continually but I see no reason why. So I am without my Sears compressor till we solve the problem. Thank you in advance for you help.
The regulator has a diaphragm that lets the air from the tank go to the outlet line and maintains the pressure you have the regulator set at.
The hole in the regulator body is a "weep hole" as you suspected. If the diaphragm ruptures this "weep hole" lets the pressure out of the regulator body. You need to replace the regulator on your compressor.Member
