How do I reset the keyless entry code on my Genie garage door opener?

I have a Genie 1/2 HP garage door opener model H6000A. The keyless entry does not work. How do I reset it?

Based on the H series garage door openers, it appears that you have a GWKP keyless entry remote with a product code of 35282R. Based on this information, the programming steps should be:

  1. Press 3 5 7 PROG. The red LED light should blink once per second.
  2. Enter your PIN (3 to 8 characters).
  3. Press PROG. The red LED should blink twice per second and then turn off.
  4. Find the Learn Code Button and Learn Code Indicator LED on your door opener.
    1. If your door opener has a black antenna wire, the Learn Code Button and Indicator LED are located near the antenna. The light lens may need to be opened.
    2. If your door opener does not have an antenna, you have an external receiver. The external receiver cover must be removed the access the Learn Code Button and Indicator LED>
  5. Press the Learn Code Button. The Learn Code Indicator LED on the opener will blink.
  6. Enter your PIN and press UP/DOWN ARROWS on the keypad. The Learn Code Indicator LED will stay on.
  7. Press UP/DOWN ARROWS on the keypad again. The Learn Code Indicator LED turns off.
  8. Wait until the Keypad Backlight turns off (this will take about 30 seconds).

These instructions were obtained from the Genie website (geniecompany.com). Here is a link for the instruction sheet for the model of keyless remote indicated above: Genie Wireless Keypad Operating Instructions

If you need more help, resubmit your question with additional details including the model number of the remote that you are using.

This is a great place to go for advice, especially if you're low on funds and you could resolve the problem before calling and paying a service call, if it's an easy fix. I'm glad you are there for me.
