My garage door opener opens on its own. I've changed the code, but it still happens. What can I do?

It is a Craftsman 1/2 HP. It is from 2002 & is the square model, not the rounded one. I don't have the model number handy

Look on the motor unit to see if the LED is flashing. If it is flashing your garage door opener is receiving an rf (radio frequency) signal. If the led is flashing rapidly, the rf signal is strong. If the led is flashing slowly or intermittently, the rf signal is weak. This signal can be coming from something in your garage or house or from somewhere in the neighborhood. The rf signal confuses the logic board on the garage door opener and causes it to open or close intermittently.

Remove the batteries from your remotes and keyless entry and see if the flashing stops. Is there an old remote stored somewhere? If there is remove the battery from it.

If you don't find the source here, start turning off circuit breakers for the house. Watch the led as you turn the breakers off so you know if it stops blinking which circuit the source is on.

If you don't find the source of the rf you can schedule service and get a Sears technician to check the garage door opener. Sears technicians have an rf signal locater to find the source of the rf.

The flashing LED might only occur when the door is opening by itself.

This is a great place to go for advice, especially if you're low on funds and you could resolve the problem before calling and paying a service call, if it's an easy fix. I'm glad you are there for me.
