I have a Craftsman garage opener and I'm unable to program the remotes. The model of the garage door opener is 139.53663SRT1.

I purchased two remotes from Sears for models with the "red" learn button and have followed two sets of directions. One from the opener and the other from the actual manual which I downloaded from this site. Neither worked for me.

The part number for the 3 function remote for your garage door opener is 139.53681. This remote will have blue buttons on it.

If your remotes are 53681's, you need to erase the codes from the logic board memory before programming the remotes.

The memory in the logic board will store 4-6 codes. When the memory is full, it won't accept any more codes. Erasing the codes gives you room in the memory to program your remotes.

In the owner's manual that came with the remotes it usually tells you which color of learn button it works with. If these instructions tell you the remote works with red learn buttons, erasing the codes should solve your problem.

This is a great place to go for advice, especially if you're low on funds and you could resolve the problem before calling and paying a service call, if it's an easy fix. I'm glad you are there for me.
