My Sears garage door opener model 139.53930D runs erratic (starts/stops) on generator power. It is OK on normal electricity. What do I adjust?

The generator tech says I need to reduce the sensitivity of the opener controls. How much do I adjust?

There is no adjustment of the sensitivity of the opener controls.

If the opener works on regular house current, I think the problem is with your generator.

Ask the generator company to check the hertz of the power from the generator. The garage door opener operates on 60 cycle electricity. I suspect the generator is putting out something different from 60 cycles.

There are many garage door openers working on generator power. This is not a problem we have had.

The generator produces 121-124volts at 59 to 60 Hz at the power wall outlet. The generator tech says he runs into this problem periodically, including some openers that won't even start to move. Mine moves up about 3' reverses itself, then goes back a foot or two, then reverses erratically. I think the logic system on the opener can't handle the voltage variations. The older (1992 model) Sears opener next to it has no problem like the new one.

This is a great place to go for advice, especially if you're low on funds and you could resolve the problem before calling and paying a service call, if it's an easy fix. I'm glad you are there for me.
