Remmi...

I have a Sears mod 139.53525SRT, 1995 model Garage door opener. It won't always close using the wall or remote unit. What to do?

I bought this house this summer and noticed that when using the remote opener, occasionally the door would open and then would not close. The light comes on and the unit hums briefly but nothing else. After leaving it alone for a day or two it would then close. This time it is not closing even after being open for a number of days. It is a 53000 SRT series garage door opener. 1995.

It might be the door safety sensors are out of alignment. Check the led's on the door sensors. If the led's are blinking they are misaligned. If either led is off, replace the door sensors. If both led's are off, the problem is probably in the wiring to the door sensors.

Look at the led on the motor unit of the garage door opener. If it is flashing a code, the code tells you where the problem probably. I am sending you an image of the codes so you can tell where to start looking.

This is a great place to go for advice, especially if you're low on funds and you could resolve the problem before calling and paying a service call, if it's an easy fix. I'm glad you are there for me.
