The Craftsman 1/2 HP Opener (part number 41A4315-7D) happened to stopped once at 1 ft from the ground. At that time, the door was down and opened smoothly. On the next day after that, it does not work from the remote control, but it works well from the door control on the wall. I have tried some to fix it. I replaced a battery in the remote control and reprogrammed the receiver as per the instructions on the back panel of the opener. It still does not work from the remote control.
If you have to hold the button on the wall control to close the door, and the remote causes the door to move a few inches and return, the problem is in the door safety sensors. Check the leds on the sensors. If one is blinking, the sensors are out of alignment. If either led is not on the sensors are bad. If neither led is on, the problem is in the wiring to the sensors or the logic board on the opener.
If the garage door opener works normally from the wall switch, but does nothing with the remote, the remote has probably just failed. Replace the remote. Before you reprogram a remote, you should erase the codes from the logic board on the motor unit of the opener. Do this by holding the learn button on the logic board down until the led goes off. You will have to program all remotes after you erase the codes. The logic board memory will hold 4-6 codes. When it is full it won't accept any more codes.Member
