When I try to operate my garage door opener, it clicks twice and the green light blinks 5 times. What does this mean?

It is a model 139.53637SRT1. When trying to operate the opener, it makes 2 clicks. The green programming light on the unit flashes 5 times, pauses for 3-4 seconds then blinks 5 times again. This keeps repeating. What might be the problem?

The 5 blinks of the led tells you the problem is in the rpm sensor in the motor unit of the garage door opener. You can go to www.searspartsdirect.com and see a parts diagram of your garage door opener.

There is a black plastic interrupter cup mounted on the end of the motor shaft. Be sure this cup is pushed on the shaft as far as it will go. The notched edge of the interrupter cup rides inside a groove of the rpm sensor and breaks an infra red beam as it turns. If it isn't breaking the beam the rpm sensor doesn't work.

If the interrupter cup is riding as deep in the groove as it should, you need to replace the rpm sensor.

I am sending you an image showing what the flash codes mean for the garage door opener.

To MMH EXPERT_JK: As I said before, the head unit clicks twice, 1-2 seconds between clicks. By listening closely and with physical isolation (by finger), it seems to be a relay or something in the upper left corner of the logic board (viewed from the rear of the opener...look at the diagram you referred me to - it's right where the #20 arrow is pointing.). I have verified that the cup is firmly seated. The motor does not move, only the clicking from the "relay" on the PCB. There is no travel of the chain control unit or the motor. Does this means I have a fried logic board? Your prompt reply is appreciated. Thanks- LWC

This is a great place to go for advice, especially if you're low on funds and you could resolve the problem before calling and paying a service call, if it's an easy fix. I'm glad you are there for me.
