My garage door remote controls my door and my neighbors. How do I fix this? It just started.

It is a Craftsman Garage door opener Model 139.53978SRT1, 139.53961SRT. We have had our garage door for about 8 years and haven't had a problem. Then out of the blue, our remote started controlling my neighbors garage door as well. She also has a Craftsman door, that is 8 yrs old. We haven't had a problem up to this point. It is very frustrating and we have tried reprogramming, changing assess codes etc. Any idea how to fix it?

The model numbers you sent don't work in our system. We don't have any garage door openers with 539 in the model numbers.

I have used a modification of the model numbers to come up with what I think you have. If I am fairly accurate your garage door opener changes the code each time you reprogram the remote.

I would recommend programming and reprogramming your remote 3-6 times in succession. This will hopefully get the code for your opener far enough away from the neighbors to stop the problem. You will need to erase all codes from the memory of your opener to do that many reprograms. Erase the codes by holding the learn button in until the led goes off.

This is a great place to go for advice, especially if you're low on funds and you could resolve the problem before calling and paying a service call, if it's an easy fix. I'm glad you are there for me.
