Why does my Sears garage door opener, model 13953970SRT auto reverse after installing new sprocket and gear assembly?
The motor makes about 20 revolutions and stops then reverses to original point. I tried different combination's of up/down force adjustments and up/down travel limits. In each case, the opener light does not flash. Safety reverse sensors are working properly.

When you removed the worm gear you removed the small gear that drives the up and down limit switch. In the process of the repair the limit switch and the position of the trolley got out of synchronization.
You need to open the door and remove this gear again. Manually turn the limit switch so the center contact almost touches the up contact. Install the drive gear and adjust the up and down limits properly.Join this conversation.
