I have a Craftsman Garage Door Opener model 139.53637SRT1, serial# 44354C00615. I just sent for and installed the drive gear and worm gear in the opener. Could I have some way or another got something out of whack when I installed the Drive Gear and Worm Gear?

I have a Craftsman Garage Door Opener model 139.53637SRT1, serial 44354C00615. I just sent for and installed: 041A2817/ Service Kit Drive and Gear+Worm. After installing the Drive Gear and Worm Gear,I reinstalled the Opener to it original location. Before installing the chain to the opener sprocket I exercised the opener clockwise then placed the chain on the sprocket. I then hooked up the wall Control and Sensor wires to the Opener Terminal Screws. I used my Remote Control to activate the Opener. The door opened approx 3Ft. and stopped. I then activated the opener to close the door and it closed to approximately 1 ft. from the floor and reversed itself to the 3ft. area. I tried to increase both the up travel and down travel with the Limit Adjustment Screws and with no results and even tried to adjust the Force adjustment Control with no effect what so ever.

Thank you for the excellent detail you provided. I apologize for the long delay on this answer. We got behind during the holiday season because of vacations. We have also had some technical problems, we should get caught up in February.

When you removed the worm gear you removed the small gear that drives the up and down limit switch.

You need to open the door and remove this gear again. Manually turn the limit switch so the center contact almost touches the up contact. Install the drive gear and adjust the up and down limits properly.

This is a great place to go for advice, especially if you're low on funds and you could resolve the problem before calling and paying a service call, if it's an easy fix. I'm glad you are there for me.
