I have a 1/2 hp Sears Craftsman garage door that won't close. It sounds like it wants to start to close for a fraction of a second but stops. I lack the manual (bought the house and the previous owner didn't leave a manual). It looks like it is at least 5 years old (?).
You can download or print a manual by going to [www.managemylife.com]. Go to the find manual section on the home page and enter your information. The model number is on the motor unit and will look something like 139.53668srt.
If the door stops and reverses there is usually a problem with the alignment of the door safety sensors. Look at the led on the logic board in the motor unit. After the door fails to close the led will usually flash a code to tell you where the problem is.Check the led's on the sensors. If they are blinking they are out of alignment. If one or both is not lit, the sensors are probably bad. Check the wiring to the sensors for being pinched or damaged. If the sensors are failed our out of alignment, you can over ride them by holding the wall switch in until the door closes. If the wall switch won't over ride the fault, it is probably the rpm sensor inside the motor unit has failed.-Member
