The hand held remotes will not program to my newly purchased garage door opener. It is the same model number as before. Why won't they program?

I had garage door opener Model 53920 since 92. It finally gave out, I bought a new one same model number. The hand held unit that came with it will program fine but others we've been using will not program. I have cleared all codes from it and reprogrammed the unit supplied with it and it programs fine, but the other hand helds we've been using will not program to it.

You thought you bought the same opener, but you didn't. Your old remote was a billion code remote. The new remotes are the new rolling code remotes. The logic board in the new opener will accept the billion code technology or the rolling code technology. It won't accept both at the same time. I am sorry but you will need to buy new remotes.

This is a great place to go for advice, especially if you're low on funds and you could resolve the problem before calling and paying a service call, if it's an easy fix. I'm glad you are there for me.
