Join inHow should I attach storage shelves to my cinder block garage (or should I at all?) Thanks!
My ground floor garage has two cinder block walls. I'd like to mount a heavy-duty 2 shelf system directly to one of these walls (the outside of the cinder block has been stucco-ed). I'd like to know if I might do this and the best way to go about it if it is deemed appropriate to mount these shelves onto cinder block. Thank You Much!

Cinder block is incredibly strong in compression. If you can mount your shelves so that the weight of the shelf only presses down on the block, then it should be fine. (Don't use some type of bracket that is relying on an anchor to stop it from popping out of the wall horizontally.) You'll need to be careful that you don't crack the block if you're using anchor bolts. As an alternative, you may want to use some 4x4 wood posts to support the shelves. Then you can put some lighter duty lag bolts or concrete screws into the walls to help keep the shelves in place. The wood posts wood take the majority of the load on the shelves. The added benefit to this approach is that if you ever want to move the shelves or adjust the spacing, it will much easier.
