I have a Craftsman 1/2hp garage door. the door won't raise above 3", even with the emergency release engaged.
The garage door was installed in 1997. All parts seem to be fine. The trolley moves fine, the rollers in the door are free and clear.

I suspect the spring for the garage door is broken. When the spring breaks you are trying to lift the entire weight of the garage door and they usually weigh from 300-800 pounds.
Garage door springs are very dangerous and people get hurt or even killed trying to replace them every year.I recommend you call a garage door company and let them repair the door for you.Join this conversation.
