How does an outdoor key switch to my garage door work? I took it apart to get it re keyed and have to redo.

I want to make sure I hooked the rope part back up correctly.

The emergency key switch lets you access a rope that is attached to the rope on the trolley to release the trolley from the rail. Releasing the trolley allows you to raise the door manually. This is assuming you don't have a manual latch engaged.

There has to be enough slack in the rope to allow for the movement of the door as it opens and closes (about 12 inches normally) and you can pull the slack out when you open the key switch.

This is a great place to go for advice, especially if you're low on funds and you could resolve the problem before calling and paying a service call, if it's an easy fix. I'm glad you are there for me.
