Why does my Craftsman 1/2 HP garage door opener only open about 2 ft most of the time sporadically?
It is a Craftsman 1/2 HP, model 139.53992. It started happening about 6-8 months after it was installed, but it is progressively getting worse. I have already lubricated the moving parts.

Does the door reverse or stop? If it is reversing is it flashing the light on the opener? Does the door close ok every time?
With the door in the down position, pull the rope and release the trolley from the door. Open and close the door several times by hand to see if it is binding. I suspect your problem is in the door and not the opener.If the door is not binding adjust the up limit stronger by 1 increment and try it. Don't leave the up limit turned to the strongest position as damage to the door might occur.Join this conversation.
