Why can I program one or the other remote to work, but both will not work after programing?

It is a Craftsman 1/2 hp. door opener model 139.53672SRT3, serial 51285C00632, MFR Date Dec98. Both remotes worked prior to number 1 remote battery dying. Both remotes can be programmed, but only one or the other will work after attempting to program both remotes.

Both remotes should have blue buttons. If they do one of them is bad. Buy a new remote and erase the programs from the logic board by holding the learn button in until the led goes off (about 6 seconds). One of the old remotes should program with the new one. Throw the other remote away.

Update:I am sorry that it has taken so long to resond.

It sounds like one of the remotes is bad and has changed it technoligy. You will need to purchase a new remote.

If you still need more information please let me know and I will be happy to help you.

The new remote has blue buttons. I had two old remotes, one fell apart and the other worked fine until we programmed the new remote. I can program the motor to work with either the old remote or the new remote but not both. I do not undertsnad the "Experts" response. Too cryptic.

I apologize that your response was not picked by the system until recently. The old remotes and the new remotes have different frequencies and the motor unit will accept either or but not both. The old remote model and new remote have to be of the same family. The color of the remote buttons will indicate if they are the same. It is possible that one of the old remotes has changed its technology and with gives you that symptom. Look on the back of the remotes to make they are the same. Sam A.

This is a great place to go for advice, especially if you're low on funds and you could resolve the problem before calling and paying a service call, if it's an easy fix. I'm glad you are there for me.
