I cleared the codes on my Craftsman garage door opener, and now the keyless entry won't program following the steps.

Craftsman 139.53975SR1 We were trying to add another remote and couldn't get it to accept code. My husband cleared the codes and when reprogrammed, could only get 1 remote to reprogram. After 1 reprograms, the others won't. We cleared the code again and got keyless entry to program but then remotes won't program. Cleared again and got the other remote to program but then other remote and keyless won't program. They all will program independently, but only one of them and we are following the directions exactly.

I think your new remote is not the correct remote for your garage door opener. Older garage door openers had access to 1 billion codes. These remotes had gray buttons on them.

Your garage door opener has access to 100 billion codes and uses a new code each time you open or close the door with a remote. These remotes have blue buttons on them. The part number of the remote is on a tag on back of the remote. The correct part number for your remote is 53681 for the standard size and 53680 for the mini remote. The buttons should be blue.

The garage door opener will accept either billion code or rolling code remotes. It will not accept both at the same time.

This is a great place to go for advice, especially if you're low on funds and you could resolve the problem before calling and paying a service call, if it's an easy fix. I'm glad you are there for me.
