I have what they call bentgrass. It's very dense, and the color of the grass isn't the same green and doesn't look good. I also have a vine-type grass coming that has no roots just a main one that grows on top of the dirt. Besides Roundup what else is availalble? I tried this once but it came all back.
The vine-like grass is probably Bermudagrass, which spreads on runners that can be vinelike and is quite aggressive.
If your lawn is struggling that much with these grasses, it sounds like it might have some overall problems. Thick, healthy lawns repel weeds by not giving them much of a spot to get a foothold.
Be sure you're mowing regularly, following a regular program of fertilizing. Keep the lawn well watered and raked in fall. Also grow grass only in sunny areas--forget about shady spots where grass struggles.
If the infestations is small, try pulling the grasses out by hand. But usually the only way to kill these two grass weeds completely is with repeat applications of Roundup. If the lawn is badly infested, you may have to kill it. Roundup takes repeat applications (three or more, applied every few days) to kill these problem grasses, especially the very tough Bermuda grass, which establishes itself even if a half-dead bit of it is stuck on a tool and worked into the soil. These grasses also have a tendency to come back, so you then you will need to do spot control thereafter.
This is big project, so you may want to call in a professional.
