How do I do adjust the sensors on my garage door opener?
My garage door opener won't close. The lights blink and the door goes back up. There is nothing in way of the sensors. Do my sensors need adjusting?

The symptoms that you described indicate a problem with the door sensors.

If the safety sensors are out of alignment, the garage door will not close. Check the LED indicators on the safety sensors. They should both be lit and steady. If one is flickering, it is likely that you have an alignment problem. Move the sensors until they are aligned and both LED’s are on and steady. The images below have additional details pertaining to alignment and troubleshooting of the safety sensors on a typical garage door opener. This may fix your problem.

If the LED’s on the safety sensors will not stay on properly, you could have a wiring problem, a bad sensor or a failed logic board in the motor unit. What a technician would normally do in this situation is use a working pair of sensors they had for testing purposes and hook them directly to the overhead unit with the sensor "eyes" held together. If the problems are still present it is likely a logic board issue since this test bypasses the sensors and wiring and alignment possibilities.

If the problem went away, the tech would then take your sensors and attach them direct to the overhead unit to repeat the test and see if it is a problem in the wiring, if not then he would test each sensor against his testing ones to see which one might be failing and so on. This is the only certain way to pinpoint the cause of your problem if the sensors will not work properly.

You could start by testing your sensors at the overhead and at least get an idea if you have a wiring or logic board problem or what you else you might be dealing with.

If you need more help with this problem, resubmit your question with additional details and the full model number of your garage door opener.
