Craftsman model 139.53648DM
I found no 139.53648DM model in our system but it is likely a 139.53648D model instead.
The 139.53648D model uses a 1/2 hp motor which is rated for use with most residential doors, generally considered any door 8 feet or less in height and 18 feet or less in width, but there is no specific weight rating provided for it.In fact, there are no actual weight ratings specified for most garage door openers. That might sound odd, since we tend to think of the opener as lifting the weight of the garage door, but the truth is that the opener only assists with opening the door. Most of the effort required to overcome the weight of the door is actually provided by the door springs and not the opener itself. That is the main reason why setting-up the springs and door balance are so important. As noted in your Owner's Manual and shown in the image below, any garage door should have enough spring force on it that you can disconnect the opener and lift it fairly easily by hand. And the door should even stay in the half-open position if you release it there.Setting up the doors in that manner allows a whole range of openers to safely open and close almost all residential doors out there, even though those doors may vary from lightweight fiberglass or aluminum to heavy wood.In fact, 1/2 hp rated motors are now used for most residential garage doors and most handle all those different types and weight of doors without any issue. And, with different lift mechanisms and torque settings, some 1/2 hp motor are even used for commercial doors up to 12 feet high. There are motors rated at less than 1/2 hp and with proper door balance and springing they also work for most application, though they are typically recommended for single-car garage doors only.If you are having issues with the opener struggling to lift your door there may be something wrong with the springs or some binding in the door lift mechanisms. If the door tests okay as mentioned here, then the force settings on your opener may need to be adjusted. We recommend those adjustments be performed by a professional to be sure the door remains safe to open and close. There is additional information in the Sources links below with more on those adjustments and some other basic checks. You can get more information on professional inspection or repair options in your particular area by calling 1-800-4MY-HOME (800-469-4663).Member
