I need to make the door opening bigger on the shed to get the lawnmower in.The shed was already built with the doors on it, opening is not big enough.
I'm assuming this is a wood frame shed, and not a metal one. It's also difficult to give you specific instructions without being able to see how the current shed has been constructed.
You can either make the existing door and door opening bigger, or leave the existing door and add another small door so that both could be opened to give a bigger opening. To make the existing door bigger, first remove the door. Next, enlarge the door opening - you may need to remove some fasteners, or cut through existing wood framing and the outer sheathing. Build a new frame around the opening, copying the design of the original frame as much as possible. (Note: It may be easier to build the new door frame first, and then cut away the older frame and outside sheathing afterwards.)Once the new opening is finished, either construct a new door or enlarge the old door to fit. You could also build a 2nd small door to go beside the original door. Install the new door(s) and finish by painting or staining any new wood.Member
