Small wooden gate sags on side opposite hinge

My husband built small wooden gate for deck. However, it sags on side where it should latch. Husband built it and doesn't want a diagonal cross section. It's only 47" wide and he built it with douglas fir. how can he keep it from sagging?

Unfortunately, any square or rectangular deck doors always tend to sag, unless there is some sort of cross brace put in to prevent it. This sagging happens because the individual wood pieces are relatively thin, and even if you spread your nails/screws out, the connection points still rotate slightly at every joint, causing an overall sag to the door. Solutions include: -a diagonal wood brace -diagonal wires (less visible) -adding some metal corner braces (typically found in the deck hardware area of a hardware store) -most hardware stores carry a fence door bracing kit, which you build into the door to prevent sagging

This is a great place to go for advice, especially if you're low on funds and you could resolve the problem before calling and paying a service call, if it's an easy fix. I'm glad you are there for me.
