Replacing door: How do I adjust the hinges so it hangs straight? (too tight at top, gaps at bottom)

Replacing old wooden shed door with steel-over-wood French door. Exactly same size. I put the old door's hinges on the "new" door. When I put the hinges back in place, the door hangs crooked. Should I shim out the lower hinge and cut the upper hinge in deeper?

Start with shimming out the lower hinge slightly. This will tend to reduce the gap at the bottom and also pull the top back slightly. If it still ends up contacting at the top, then you will need to recess the top hinge in slightly.

This is a great place to go for advice, especially if you're low on funds and you could resolve the problem before calling and paying a service call, if it's an easy fix. I'm glad you are there for me.
