Craftsman 1/2 hp garage door opener 139.53992 I linked my 2008 Chrysler Town and Country HomeLink on the visor to my garage door opener. Now the garage door remote and keypad wont work. The car works.
Your Craftsman opener uses advanced code-changing, or “rolling code” technology to make your garage as safe as possible. To program such an advanced system, the opener needs to search for a wide range of code styles. Normally that is not an issue, but it can make it possible to program-in an incorrect code if the opener happens to match it.
In other words, your HomeLink is likely not compatible with your opener, but your opener is powerful enough to “learn” the incompatible coding anyway. And once your opener has “learned” a different code style, the original remotes will no longer be recognizable to the opener. If you reset, or erase, the memory using the instructions in your Owner's Manual or on the opener, you can reprogram your original remotes and keyless entry in and they should work again. If not, a transmitter might need new batteries or replacing, see the links below for more.Unfortunately, if you try to program the HomeLink in again, it will likely lock out the original remotes again.Rolling code technology has been available for a while now so there may be options available to allow HomeLink remotes to match your Craftsman opener. However, the HomeLink remotes were not designed or built by Sears so we have no information here to confirm or help with that. You could try going to HomeLink.com as that site does have more information, such as optional programming techniques, that might work. The site also has contacts for further assistance if the information offered does not help. Or, if the remote is built into your car, the car manufacturer themselves may have options that will help.In either case, double-check that you have the complete model number for them since a simple difference, such as a “D” at the end for example, can indicate a much different style of system. And let them know it is a rolling code opener so they understand which system style you need your HomeLink to be compatible with.Member
