How can I put in chain link fence posts when I have rocks under my 3 inches of lawn?

There was a flood years ago and washed most of the land away. The city came in and put rock down to rebuild the yard and only put down about 6 inches of dirt and grass. I need to get the posts into the ground about a foot and a half but don't know how to get through the rock. Can anyone offer some advice that won't be too expensive.

There isn't an easy solution to this. Depending on the size of the rocks, you may be able to pound some small steel rods down in between the rocks, and then put your fence posts over top of them. Another option is hand digging, but this will obviously be very labor intensive. The expensive solution is drilling holes, much the same way a well would be drilled.

This is a great place to go for advice, especially if you're low on funds and you could resolve the problem before calling and paying a service call, if it's an easy fix. I'm glad you are there for me.
