What is the best way to straighten an oak tree thats 8 feet tall and is leaning about 20 degrees now

The tree doesn't seem that bad to me but my wife wants me to try to push it using a 2 x 4 brace. Any ideas gratefully accepted.

The most important part of the solution is to figure out why the tree is leaning. Staking trees is not generally recommended because it prevents them from developing strong root systems to stabilize themselves.

If it was planted in the last year or two and is leaning because it was planted wrongly at a tilt, the best bet is to dig it up and replant.

Is it leaning because it's trying to reach more light? If so, again, this problem will only get worse over time. Staking will not help. So it would be best to transplant it someplace where it gets more sun.

The only way staking could help is if the tree is in a very windy site. In that case, give it a shot. Just be sure to use soft materials, such as strips of rags or pantyhose, to tie it to the stake. And be sure to remove after a couple of years.

This is a great place to go for advice, especially if you're low on funds and you could resolve the problem before calling and paying a service call, if it's an easy fix. I'm glad you are there for me.
