The manual (pg 12) says to mount the header bracket 2" above the max door height but the cord is 6" too short in this location. Can I mount the garage opener 7-8" higher (9-10" higher than max door height) so I don't have to change the cord?
Depending on which model you have it might be possible but is not recommended.
There may not be enough adjustment in the lift mechanism or additions for door lifts to be sure the door will still sit at the proper angle when open. And if the door does not sit at the proper angle it will be difficult to balance the door weight safely and hard on the opener and lift mechanisms, which means the door may not work properly and will be potentially dangerous.Even if you had the adjustment needed or additional parts required to still have the door sit at the proper angle when open, the alterations and adjustments would probably cost more than having a professional install a longer cord.It may even be possible to run an extension cord instead, provided it meets the requirements listed in your Owner's Manual and it meets the regulations and standards in your area.Either way, having the cord length altered will not cause potential instability or wear in your door lift mechanisms or potential safety concerns and will likely be a far more economical route in the long run.Member
