Can I force low lateral growth by trimming several feet off the top of 25ft black pine trees?
The trees are planted on an oceanfront property and are now blocking views from several windows. Will cutting off the tops kill the trees or ruin their appearance? I'd like to see more low branches and less trunk close to the ground. What are my options?

If you trim the top off mature pines, it will indeed make them misshapen. It might stimulate some lower growth, but mainly, unfortunately, it will interfere with the trees natural (and attractive) growth pattern.

One suggestion: If just one or two trees are blocking key views, you might consider taking those and only those out.
