Maintenance, chain tension, tension and force? Craftsman 139.53648.SRT2.
Once your opener has been installed and gone through an initial set-up there is typically no need to adjust the tension or force settings. You should periodically test the system though to be sure the tension and other safety features are working normally.
The door hinges and rollers and the lift mechanisms do need to be clean and lubricated and in most cases this will make a bigger difference to door operation than anything else you might do.If your door has settled, you may need to fine-tune your travel limits per the instructions in your manual. The chain tension might need adjusting if it is hanging noticeably but some slack is normal with the door closed.See the images and links below for more details and to find your manual on Manage My Home.To test the balance of the door itself, release the door from the opener and lift the door by hand. If it is properly weighted and balanced, the door should lift smoothly with little resistance and should remain half-open on its own if released in that position, just watch your toes in case it does not.If the door balance and weight do not test properly we would recommend you consult a professional to address the issue. The springs needed on most doors are under heavy tension and it is too easy to be injured without the proper tools, training, and experience to make adjustments.Member
